The Ghyllside Shillies weekender is taking place on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th 2022.
The weekend starts and finishes in at Ghyllside Cycles in Ambleside, with an overnight camp at a location you will find out shortly before the weekend.
There will be a variety of route suggestions for both days, including gravel and mountain bike of various lengths / difficulties
The Shillies weekender is to be a social fun weekend and will include
- Evening meal and breakfast at camp
- Demo bikes from Salsa Cycles, Surly, Bombtrack Bicycle Co, and more!
- Camp fire’s
There will be on-site mechanics for any niggles, or breakdowns that need sorting.
WHAT YOUR FULL WEEKEND TICKET INCLUDES:
A selection of routes of various lengths and difficulties
Your Camping Pitch.
Evening Meal on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday.
Access to demo bikes at the campsite from Salsa, Bombtrack and Surly. (Plus more TBC)
Demo Bikes available to book for full day demos on the Saturday and Sunday
Full facilities at the camp including showers and toilets.
WHAT do you need?
- A bike capable of riding gravel or MTB
- A tent, unless you like sleeping under the stars
- A sleeping bag, sleeping mat, pillow etc
- Snacks and water for the ride.
- Bike locks!
- A helmet…
Q- I don't have bikepacking bags, can I still ride the weekend?
A- We will have some demo kit available for you to try, or we can transport small bags to the campsite for you.
Q- Are demos only available in the evening at the campsite?
A- Demo bikes will be available at the campsite for anyone to try, but about a month in advance of the weekend the full list of demos will be published and you will be able to book a bike to try for the days ride. (limited availability so need to book). You will not be able to ride the same demo bike Saturday and Sunday so if demoing a bike you will need to book a different bike for each day, just to give other people the opportunity to try the bikes.
Q- Where is the campsite?
A- This will be released a week before the event to those who have signed up, when GPX files for routes suggestions will be available.
Q-Can we camp on Friday night?
A-Unfortunately the campsite won’t be open, there are local campsites that should have availability if you book in advance.
Q- Is there a specific start time?
A- We will be having a mass start from Ghyllside Cycles on the Saturday morning at 10:30.
Q- Do you have GPX files for the routes?
A- Yes, but they will be released and sent via email 1 week before the event.
Q-Can we bring the dog?
Q- Is there parking on site?
A- No, there is no parking available at the campsite it is required to the campsite. Vehicles will be need to be parked in Ambleside for the weekend, Parking is available in the village.
Q- Is it family friendly?
A- Yes, it is a fully inclusive weekend.
Q- Is it a race?
Q-Is there breakdown support?
A- No, once you are out on the trail, its up to you, take tools, tubes whatever you need to make sure you’re bike keeps running, but, our mechanics will attempt to sort out any niggles at camp.
